A crater lake is a lake that forms in a volcanic crater or caldera, such as a maar; less commonly and with lower association to the term a lake may form in an impact crater caused by a meteorite, or in an artificial explosion caused by humans.

Sometimes lakes which form inside calderas are called caldera lakes, but often this distinction is not made. Crater lakes covering active (fumarolic) volcanic vents are sometimes known as volcanic lakes, and the water within them is often acidic, saturated with volcanic gases, and cloudy with a strong greenish color. Lakes located in dormant or extinct volcanoes tend to have fresh water, and the water clarity in such lakes can be exceptional due to the lack of inflowing streams and sediment.

“Daredevil Nik Wallenda became the first person to walk on a tightrope across the Niagara Falls, taking steady, measured steps June 15, 2012 for 1,800 feet across the mist-fogged brink of the roaring falls separating the U.S. and Canada.


“I feel like I'm on cloud nine right now”, an exuberant Wallenda told reporters after accomplishing what he said was his childhood dream before an estimated 112,000 people crowding the shores of both countries and millions more who watched a live television broadcast.He described wind “coming from every which way”, mist so powerful he had to blink it away to maintain his vision and a breathtaking view during the nighttime walk illuminated by spotlights that “compared to nothing”.


“There was no way to focus on the movement of the cable”, said Wallenda, 33. “If I looked down at the cable there was water moving everywhere. And if I looked up there was heavy mist blowing in front of my face. So it was a very unique, a weird sensation”.He said he accomplished the feat through “a lot of praying, that's for sure. But, you know, it's all about the concentration, the focus, and the training”.


The seventh-generation member of the famed Flying Wallendas had long dreamed of pulling off the stunt, never before attempted. Other daredevils have wire-walked over the Niagara River but farther downstream and not since 1896.“This is what dreams are made of, people”, said Wallenda, who wore a microphone for the broadcast, shortly after he stepped off from a platform on the American shore”.

Jinmao Tower is an 88-storey skyscraper in Shanghai, China. It was completed in 1998, at which time it was the tallest skyscraper in China. Right now it is second to the Shanghai World Financial Center, and the two will soon be overtaken by the 128-storey Shanghai Tower under construction. It is presently the 5th tallest skyscraper in the world by roof height, and the 7th tallest by height to the pinnacle.Jinmao Tower stands at a height of 421 meters or 1,380 feet. It is located near the Lujiazui Metro station. It was built at a cost of US$530 million. Like the Petronas Twin Towers, the measurements of Jinmao Tower revolves around the number 8, which is considered auspicious to the Chinese. 

The exterior of Jinmao Tower is covered by a curtain wall made of glass, stainless steel, aluminium and granite. A latticework of aluminium alloy pipes form a cladding over the outer wall.The first 50 floors of Jinmao Tower are used for offices. The Shanghai Grand Hyatt occupies the 53rd to the 87th floor. It is the second tallest hotel in the world after the Shanghai Park Hyatt, which occupies the 79th to the 93rd floor of adjacent Shanghai World Financial Center. The Shanghai Grand Hyatt at Jinmao Tower has a famous atrium that extends from the 56th floor of the tower right up to the 87th floor. The atrium is 115 meters in height and 27 meters in diameter.

There are several restaurants at Jinmao Tower. Canton, an upscale Cantonese restaurant, occupies the 55th floor. On the 56th floor are four eateries, namely The Grill, the Cucina Japanese Restaurant, the Kobachi Japanese Restaurant and the Patio LoungeClub Oasis, a fitness centre, occupies the 57th floor. It also has the world's highest swimming pool.Club Jin Mao, a Shanghainese restaurant, occupies the 86th floor while at the 87th floor is Cloud 9 and Sky Lounge.The Jinmao Tower Skywalk is an observation deck. It is located on the 88th floor, and has a capacity of 1000 people. Admission fee to the observation deck is ¥88.00 for adults and ¥45 for children.

Thousands of people flocked to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday for a spectacular celebration of the famous landmark's 75th birthday. But a less cheery presence at the festivities was this display of 1,558 shoes representing those who have killed themselves by jumping off the bridge into the San Francisco Bay.The moving installation was the work of the Bridge Rail Foundation, an organisation dedicated to stopping suicide jumps from the bridge.'It's a symbol of how deep and serious this problem has been,' said spokesman Paul Muller. 'We're still losing 30 to 35 a people a year off the bridge.'

Since it opened in 1937, more than 2billion vehicles have crossed the mammoth structure.The imposing tourist attraction was named after the Golden Gate Strait, the entrance of water to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean, which was championed by engineer Joseph Strauss in the 1920s.The bridge, which rises majestically above a Civil War-era fort on the San Francisco side and arches across to the Marin County headlands to the north, is in the middle of a seismic upgrade that has seen many of its structures replaced or modified.

The bridge was built as the US emerged from the Great Depression, and was heralded as an engineering marvel when it opened in 1937.Now an iconic sight, it was the world's longest suspension span at the time, built across a strait that critics said was too treacherous to be bridged.Crews had to install a bracing system after high winds lashed and twisted the span in the 1950s, raising fears it would collapse. Years later, they had to replace vertical cables when they were found to have corroded in the bridge's damp, foggy climate, potentially destabilising the span.

'When (one of the bridge's designers) made his final speech during opening day ceremonies in 1937, he said, "I present to you a bridge that will last forever,"' said Daniel Mohn, the bridge's former chief engineer, who co-authored a book about the span. 'What he should have said is, "I present to you a bridge that will last forever if properly maintained."'Eleven men died during construction from 1933 to 1937 – ten of them when scaffolding fell through a safety net that had been set up to protect workers.The conditions were difficult, cold, foggy and windy, and workers who helped construct supports for the south tower had to contend with dangerous tides.

The current retrofit project is expected to extend the bridge's lifespan by another 150 years.

Axel Erlandson has a passion for sculpturing tress and this is what inspired him to open up a horticulture exhibit in 1947 located in Santa Cruz. This particular talent is known as Arbor Sculpture! He created many master pieces for example the Circus Tree which attracted a lot of attention from around the world! He used the technique to graft various living plants together to make up the structure. One particular structure that is quite famous is the Basket tree for which he had grafted sycamores together in 42 different connections. It is these connections that gave it the basket shape!

The richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani, has moved into his new home in Mumbai which is 27 storeys high and worth $1 bln.Ambani, his wife and three children have moved into the building which is named Antilia, after a mythical Island. It contains a health club with a gym and dance studio, at least one studio, a ballroom, guestrooms and a range of lounges and a 50 seater cinema.There is even an elevated garden with ceiling space to accommodate small trees.

The roof has three helicopter pads and there is also underground parking for 160 cars, which will come in handy for guests at Ambani's forthcoming housewarming party.From the top floors of the 173m high property are spectacular views of Mumbai and of the Arabian Sea.The 53 year-old tycoon is not only the richest man in India but the fourth richest man in the world. In total there is reported to be 37,000 square metres of space, which is more than the Palace of Versailles

.To keep it running smoothly requires 600 staff.According to Forbes magazine Ambani, who owns much of Reliance Industries, the oil, retail and biotechnologies conglomerate, is worth £18bn. He used to help run the company before falling out with his brother.The glass, steel and tiles used to make the building are reported to be from local sources.Ambani does not appear to be influenced by calls by the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, for business leaders to be "role models of moderation".

World’s First Vertical Forest in Milan

Bosco Verticale is an ambitious eco project in Milan, designed by architect Stefano Boeri, which tries to blend two discrepant mediums, urban and nature, into one harmonic whole. The project is comprised of  two towers with giant cantilevered staggered balconies that permit fairly big trees to be accommodate, since there is a minimum of two storeys over every balcony. Basically, it’s a vertical forest in the heart of a blooming metropolis.

There is a wide insufficiency of urban green spaces in cities worldwide, and so much could be obtained with just a tree for every small building. Boeri takes it to a whole new level, up that is, with great results.The vertical forest will offer its residents, as well as the rest of Milan’s populace, a cleaner, greener life, as it will produce humidity and oxygen, absorb CO2 and dust particles,  and protect from radiation and acoustic pollution.

The Bosco Verticale, composed of two residential towers of 110 and 76 meters height, is currently under construction in the centre of Milan, on the edge of the Isola neighbourhood, and will host 900 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 m tall) , alongside a wide range of shrubs and flowers.If the apartments would have been constructed individually, the entire project would require 50,000 square meters of land, and 10,000 square meters of woodland.

Plant irrigation will be made filtering and reuse of the grey waters produced by the building.The two towers, upholding to its sustainable, renewable new age bran will also feature an array of other sustainable tech, like photovoltaic and aeolian energy systems.The towers under construction in the heart of Milan.
